Attention! Controlling candida overgrowth is the main step in leaky gut healing and psoriasis management.
You might have heard people praising coconut oil for Psoriasis, did you know it works via antibacterial and antifungal activity? This could indicate that Psoriasis patients more likely to have candida overgrowth, and candida overgrowth could indicate a leaky gut syndrome which has been labelled as the main cause of autoimmune diseases including Psoriasis.
We talked about Candida and Psoriasis’ connection in our previous post and the importance of treating Candida in order to Heal Psoriasis. High levels of C. Albicans in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to leaky gut, bloodstream infections, including invasive candidiasis, and possibly cause the Psoriasis outbreaks. Home remedies can complement your treatment and help treat Candida overgrowth to take better control of Psoriasis naturally. Coconut oil is #2 on our list, and here are the main reasons;
Coconut oil is about 50% medium-chain saturated fatty acid called Lauric acid, which is found in mother’s milk, and its health benefits are well documented and truly powerful. Because of its high lauric acid content, coconut oil has antiviral, antifungal, antiprotozoal, antibacterial activity and also can enhance the immune system.
DebMandal and Mandal report that coconut oil is very effective against various lipid-coated viruses such as; Visna-Maedi virus, CMV, Epstein-Barr virus, influenza, virus, leukaemia virus, Pneumoviruse, and hepatitis C virus. The medium-chain saturated fatty acids in coconut oil primarily destroy these organisms by disrupting their membranes, thus interfering with virus assembly and maturation .
Although coconut oil is a Saturated fat that goes solid at room temperature, it turns liquid as soon as it enters your body or touches your skin. Unlike the other Saturated fats from animal sources that are hard to digest and increases bad cholesterol, coconut oil actually helps digestion and increases the HDL -the good cholesterol levels. It is commonly used to heal skin conditions, including Psoriasis, and is considered a highly effective Candida overgrowth treatment.
How to use
Anti-fungal Body scrub
If you were looking for a natural body scrub with healing effects, this one is a must-try. Helps both; Psoriasis and the Cutaneous Candidiasis (the skin is infected with candida fungi, which is common in psoriasis especially, inverse type). For this amazing DIY scrub, you will need the following ingredients;
- 3 tbsp of coconut oil
- 3 tbsp of grated coconut meat
- 3 tbsp of unperfumed medium-coarse plain sea salt
- tbsp of aloe vera gel
- 10 drops of tea tree oil (optional)
- 2 tbsp of lemon or lime juice (optional; better exfoliation with vitamin C and brightening effect)

- 2 drops of essential oil to give pleasant perfume. Tea tree oil or Lavender oil or Rose oils are good choices.
Combine all ingredients and whip with a small coffee whipper. You can use this moisturizing cream at night to reduce wrinkles and hydrate your skin. Use essential oils with caution, don’t exceed the limit as they might irritate your skin.

Coconut Oil pulling, also known as “Gundusha,” or “Kavala,” is a traditional remedy practiced in Ayurveda. It is believed to cure more than thirty systemic diseases when practiced regularly and as directed. Ayurveda hypothesizes that the tongue is connected to various organs such as kidneys, heart, lungs, small intestine, spine, etc. Oil pulling is believed to help in the elimination of toxic heavy metals by saliva. Oil pulling activates salivary enzymes that absorb toxins such as chemical toxins, bacterial toxins, and environmental toxins from the blood and removed from the body through the tongue.
- Take a tablespoon of cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil, swish around the mouth in the early morning before breakfast on an empty stomach for about 10 minutes and increase the time up to 20 min.
