Hi Mohammed, Happy Psoriasis Awareness Month!
You are already well known for raising awareness across Social Media Accounts, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and motivating warriors with your impressive healing progress. Please tell us more, and how did it all start?
My life completely changed in October of 2017, and really it did change for the better. During the time of October 2017, I was going through a lot of pressure and stress. I was trying to major in a subject that I was told if I studied would make me “successful” but I hated that subject. I was also struggling financially to pay for my rent as I was studying away from home. I was also extremely overweight at this time and was eating terrible and developed a bad smoking habit. Then psoriasis came, and everything changed.
What started as one patch eventually led to a full body cover of plaque psoriasis. After trying creams, ointments, topic treatments, pills, and finally steroid injections, nothing worked, and it seemed to me like all these things were making my overall health well-being much worse. This was the lowest point in my life, and nothing seemed to work. I was failing financially, failing on my health, and failing in school too. Fast forward a few months, and I came across a video on YouTube from famous entrepreneur and motivational speaker Gary Vee. He said, “there are those that take what happens to them and let it destroy them, and then there are those that use what happens to them to rewrite the next chapters of their lives.” This literally was the turning point of my life.
I immediately gave up all medical treatments, and although my psoriasis got much worse because I was not taking any medications, I went on a more natural approach and started seeing amazing results not just on my psoriasis, but also my body. My skin started clearing out, and I started losing much weight and people noticed! Around this same time, I graduated from school and decided to pursue something that I liked. I always wanted to do something in the fitness world and decided to pursue a career in personal training and working at a gym.
When it comes to diet living with psoriasis, I personally am completely plant based now eating a lot of more alkaline foods (fruits, dried fruits, vegetables) and I also juice everyday whether it be celery juicing, lemon/lime juice. Limiting caffeine intake as well as gluten has helped a lot. I am a big fan of eating more whole foods like beans, brown rice, potatoes of all colors, buckwheat, oats, etc. My breakfast lately has been mixture of sweet and white potatoes, with a side of fruit.
People really need to have a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet and that is why every week I get from the grocery store different types of fruits and vegetables to ensure that I am getting a variety of nutrients, minerals, and vitamins.
My top 3 non-food related triggers include stress, not getting sufficient sun exposure (winter is bad for me), and I don’t really have a third. Third would just be diet. And so for non-food related triggers and their healing I recommend to destress through meditation, exercise, long walks in nature, spending time with animals/pets, reading a book or listening to a podcast. And for sun you just have to make time to get outside every day, and during the winters I will be making an effort to travel to a warm location for 2-3 weeks so that I can re-up on my natural vitamin D. And for those who newly just got diagnosed with psoriasis, I would say don’t overthink it as it makes matters worse. Understand that from this point on things will honestly get worse, but as you overcome and battle these obstacles, you will become a stronger and better version of yourself.
I also competed in my first men’s natural bodybuilding competition last year and lost almost half my bodyweight. This was big for me and at that point I started to really post my transformation pictures and videos for both the weight loss and clearing psoriasis on Instagram and people loved it so much so I started a YouTube channel where I could teach people how to heal their psoriasis naturally through dietary and lifestyle changes.
Today I have a full online course I have built myself which I am super proud of and in that course, people can learn how to lose weight, obtain healthy lifestyle habits, and also clear their psoriasis naturally! I continue to want to create products or services that can help people with psoriasis, and I can’t wait to share what I create next!
We are stronger together. And together we will all overcome our psoriasis and be better versions of ourselves!
